Today’s event organized by CiviKos Platform had a dual purpose – the closing of the project ‘Amplifying Local Voices through Meaningful Participation’, supported by the National Endowment for Democracy, and the launch of the platform for facilitating the requests for access to public documents, “KerkoQasje.com”.
The event was opened with a brief overview of the project’s activities, the materials produced within it, and the results received from the fieldwork. Onwards, the panel consisting of Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva Drëmaku, Commissioner of the Agency for Information and Privacy, and Mr. Arton Demhasaj, Executive Director of ÇOHU, elaborated the challenges to accessing public documents, the cases with convictions of public institutions when they failed to be transparent, and the cooperation opportunities between civil society and IAP for further improving the situation.
After the presentation of the platform and its functioning, the event continued with an open discussion with the attendees, where, among other things, the need for the review and clarification of the current Law on Access to Public Documents and the classification of documents into those that are open and documents that must be requested access for were highly emphasized.
